ABSTRACT
The aim of this study is for achieving organizational effectiveness and efficiency through information technology in diamond Bank. The resolution in information technology in recent years, aptly captured by the establishment and accesses to a global networking of information systems has positively influenced time and space in the sending and retrieving of information, both within and across diverse organizations and also among diverse countries and regions. This development has brought changes in the way which decisions are reached and policies implemented in those organizations. Countries that have electronic networking arising form innovations in information technology have made practicable on-line access to a variety of technical and non-technical information and have turned the world into a virtual work place. Sequel to the above it is pertinent to evaluate the organisational effectiveness and efficiency through information technology in diamond bank .The study had a population size of 88.Instrument used for data collection was primarily questionnaire. The descriptive research design was adopted for the study. Content validity and test-retest of reliability was done, with coefficient of
0.75 indicating a high degree of consistency. Three hypotheses were tested using chi-square (x2).The result of the analysis revealed that timeliness and relevance are part of the attributes of a good information system. The findings further showed that internet and intranet are the most widely used information in organisations. Also the result revealed that there are no problem applicable to information technology. To this end
,the study recommended that there is need to embark on computer
networking to avoid wasteful application and to optimize the use of available technology.
CHAPTER ONE
1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY:
The resolution in information technology in recent years, aptly captured by the establishment and accesses to a global networking of information systems has positively influenced time and space in the sending and retrieving of information, both within and across diverse organizations and also among diverse countries and regions. This development has brought changes in the way which decisions are reached and policies implemented in those organizations. Countries that have electronic networking arising form innovations in information technology have made practicable on-line access to a variety of technical and non- technical information and have turned the world into a virtual work place. In facilitating towards a more open and inclusive global systems, the global system, the global diffusion and utilization innovation in information technology, have no doubt made contributions to the global search for efficient and effective solutions to pressing and often complex, local, global quest for sustainable national and regional development in developing countries. Information technology is not just a powerful communication form or tool but a mobilize, an educator, an interconnector, and pervasive/unavoidable partner in progress both today and for tomorrow.
Information technology is defined as “The technology which supports activities involving the creation, storage, manipulation and
communication of information, together with their related methods, management and application” Oliver and Chapman (1990:35).
According to Irving and Higgins (1991:121) information technology refers to the integration of telecommunication, data processing and personal computing with manual business processes which support key business function and which improves effectiveness, efficiency and quality of working life. technology deployment (d) finally to determine how to manage the risk associated with information technology deployment in Nigeria banking industry.
However, recent research work has proved that information technology have positive impact to the organizational effectiveness and efficiency which centers on the goal of the organization.
1.4 OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY:
a) To identify the attributes of a good information
b) To evaluate the most widely used information technology in organizations.
c) To identify the problem that are applicable to information technology.
1.5 RESEARCH QUESTIONS:
In this research work, the following formulated questions will be used to elicit response from respondents, they are:
a) What are the attributes of a good information?
b) What are the most widely used information technology available to organizations?
c) What are the problems that are application to information technology?

Attitude of Respondents: Some respondents are indifferent to the study because they feel they have nothing to benefit from the study, financially or other wise.
Finance: Due to the lack of financial resources of the researcher, he could not visits some place to gather more information about the work.
1.10 DEFINITION OF TERMS: Information technology
The technology which supports activities involving the creation, storage, manipulation and communication of information, together with their related method of management and application. (Ezigbo (2007:160).
Computer
An electronic device that has the ability to accept data internally, store data and information and automatically execute a program of instruction. It performs mathematical, logical and manipulative operations on the data and supply the result (Ezigbo (2007:162).
Timeless
This refers to the currency of the information presented to the users. Currency of data or information is the time gap between the occurrence of an event in the field until its presentation to the user (decision maker). Andeson (1987:65).
