ABSTRACT

One of the major and most concerned roles of academic institution is result computation and grading for this proves both the school and student academic performance and attainment. This research work studied the departmental result, its nature, mode of preparation, the hitches hindering smooth and fast production of departmental result. After the analysis, a new computerized system was developed for effective management of the department result. The new computerized system is very versatile, easy to use, modification mode easy, accurate, timely and very comprehensive in report generation. We provide a good number of searching and storing procedure got work output enhancements.

 

ORGANIZATION OF WORK

This study only focused on the computerization of the existing system of processing information as well as identifying the various problems which was encountered in the manual method.

Chapter one – Highlighted on problem statement, aims/objectives, purpose, significance, scope, constraints and limitations and also definition of terms.

Chapter two –     Reviewed the related literature. It discovers successes and failures.

Chapter three – This describes the description and analysis of the present system, a thorough understanding of how the present system works such understanding reached through methodology and also present output, input and process analysis, organization structure, methodology adopted and also justification for the system.

Chapter four – this has the design and implementation, output and input specification, file design, procedure chart, system flowchart, program flowchart, coding, system testing, cutover process.

CHAPTER ONE

1.0   INTRODUCTION

The preparation and production of result is a procedural exercise, it involves a lot of attachments, complex and technical calculations before arrival at the G.P.A.

The calculation emanates from the quizzes and examination scores with respect to course and their individual and cumulative credit loads for each student. Therefore carefulness must be applied for accuracy and reliability, if the task must be done manually. This takes a lot of time and accuracy is not always guaranteed with this approach.

The mental approach towards the preparation of the result is every tedious and stressful. Series of omissions and inaccuracies in score computation are all experienced under the manual system.

It was during the careful analysis of the existing system that associated problems where all detected and possible solutions to them were sought and incorporated in the system designed.

The new system is sophisticated but very easy to use the mode of data entry and update is very short, clear and immediate. The processing is automatic and does not involve any human intervention as the Result generation is timely and always very accurate.

The computerized system proves an edge over existing manual system as result of students are no more delayed, scores not miscalculated and  alterations of result almost impossible unlike in the existing system.

 

  • PROBLEM STATEMENT

A lot of delays and inaccuracies are experienced in the existing manual system of result grading. This makes the system unreliable and very expensive to maintain, the state involved faces difficulties in running the system after putting a in a lot of effort little will be achieved.

Observations, made come up with a lot of inaccuracy  and in appropriate as a result of human error in keying in entry and update data into the system.

  • AIMS/OBJECTIVES

The primary aim of this project work is to provide an efficient computerised result grading system that is devoid of delays, inaccuracies, alterations and inefficiencies. The incorporated solution will make sure that the system generates timely and very accurate Grade points (GP).

The system will not require human intervention during the processing of the result.

 

  • PURPOSE

The main purpose of this study is to design a computerised result grading system which will automatically handle the grade point computational task of the students.

  • SIGNIFICANCE

The significances of the problems are as follows:

  1. To enhance speed of the result processing.
  2. To eliminate error due to manual processing.
  3. To provide security measure to checks student mischievous act of changing marks on the result sheet.
    • SCOPE/DELIMITATION

This work concentrates on the entry of scores from quizzes and exams in various courses for calculation of student grade points.

  • CONSTRAINTS/LIMITATION

The major constraints encountered in this study were short duration for design and implementation and scarce research materials needed for the work.

  • DEFINITION OF TERMS

The following are some terms commonly used in this project:

Data: A raw information or unprocessed information it is fact and figure collected.

Direct data captured: Data is capture directly without a conversion stage.

Input: These are hardware that helps to send data inform of input to the computer.

Output: These are computer hardware that are responsible for giving out processed information.

Software: Set of logical related programs that works together to control hardware or computer components

Process: This is the management of transportation of data into useful information.

Students examination result: An official record of student’s work that show the courses they have taken and the marks they have achieved.

Design: The art or process of deciding how something will look, works etc.

Documentation: The act of recording something in a document.

Transcript: Is an inventory of courses taken and grades earned of students throughout a course. It can also be seen as a copy of students’ permanent academic records.

GP: Grade Point | CGP: Cumulative Grade Point etc.
